First Visit

Dr. Tew likes to meet personally with each patient for a preliminary exam prior to making decisions regarding their treatment. The consultation appointment offers each patient an opportunity to meet Dr. Tew and learn more about treatment options.  It also offers Dr. Tew an opportunity to discuss any health concerns, review medications, and conduct a brief exam to better understand how to approach the surgery in the way best suited to the patient.

A pre-surgical consultation protects patients from having to make immediate decisions regarding their treatment without time to fully consider all options.  It also provides the surgical team an opportunity to better prepare for the individual needs of the patient.

Please alert the office if you have had a medical condition or if you are currently taking any medication that may be of concern prior to surgery.  Some issues of concern include:

  • Diabetes
  • Rheumatic fever
  • Bone stabilization
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Routine Asprin
  • Heart Medications
  • Artificial Heart Valves and Joints
  • Anticoagulant Therapy

The more details you can provide regarding your health will help Dr. Tew determine the best treatment options.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

  • A surgical referral slip and any X-rays from your regular dentist (if applicable ).
  • A list of all medications you are presently taking (including over the counter drugs)
  • If you have medical or dental insurance, please bring an insurance card so that we may assist you in processing your claims.

Dr. Tew will try to make a diagnosis using x-rays provided by your primary dentist when possible. However, if additional x-rays or CT scans are needed to make a thorough diagnosis, there may be a charge for that service.

IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit.  A family member must also accompany elderly patients without their own power of attorney or who need assistance making decisions regarding their treatment.
