Frequently Asked Questions
1. How much does it cost to extract a tooth?
The cost of extractions varies based on how difficult the tooth is to remove and other factors. Until Dr. Tew sees the x-rays and does a brief exam, it’s difficult for him to estimate the treatment necessary. Typically, an estimate is prepared at the initial consultation, including the estimated insurance contribution, to help you understand your financial obligation prior to scheduling your surgery.
2. Why do I need a consultation?
The consultation is an opportunity for you to meet Dr. Tew and gain a better understanding of treatment options. It also provides Dr. Tew an opportunity to go over your health history and determine if there are any factors that may influence your treatment options. Some typically manageable conditions could cause complications during surgical or general anesthesia procedures. The consultation is an opportunity for Dr. Tew to discuss your health history with you and determine the safest and most effective treatment plan.
3. What do I need to bring with me to the consultation?
Dr. Tew will need an x-ray and referral from your regular dentist. In certain situations, additional X-rays may be needed at the time of the consultation to make a diagnosis. Patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A family member must also accompany elderly patients without their own power of attorney or who need assistance making decisions regarding their treatment. Also, a copy of your insurance card will help our staff determine your estimated insurance benefits.
4. Do I need to pay in full on the day of surgery?
Our staff will provide you with an estimate of your out-of-pocket costs prior to surgery. Typically, we do ask for your co-pay on the day of surgery. Cash patients are offered a 5% discount for payment in full on the day of surgery. As an independent provider, it is difficult for Dr. Tew to accommodate in-house payment plans. Our office does work with American General, Care Credit, and Capital One Finance for extended payment plans up to one year, based on approval. For more information, contact our office at (509) 853-3622.
5. Do you accept my insurance?
Dr. Tew is a preferred provider for Delta Dental. He also accepts all other dental insurances, but is not contracted with any other plans. This means the patient may be responsible for any differences between the amount their insurance company allows and Dr. Tew’s fees. We are not registered with the State and cannot accept Medical Coupons. We are also no longer Medicare providers.
6. Is oral surgery covered under my medical or dental insurance?
Typically, oral surgery is covered under the participant’s dental plan. Some procedures, such as biopsies, can be classified as medical. If there is a question regarding which insurance will cover the procedure, our staff will contact both insurances to clarify coverage.
7. I received a statement; however the insurance has not yet paid. Am I expected to pay the full amount now?
Our statements generate automatically for all outstanding balances. Most insurance plans pay within 4 to 6 weeks. It is unlikely to reflect on your first statement. However, if more that 6 weeks have passed since your insurance was submitted, please contact our office. If the insurance is not resolved within 90 days, we will ask the patient to begin making good faith payments, which will be refunded once the insurance has paid. After the insurance pays, the full amount is due within 30 days unless other financial arrangements have been made.
