What is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon?
Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons are dental specialists who treat atypical conditions of the mouth, teeth, jaws, and face. Patients may be referred to an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon for
complex conditions such as wisdom tooth removal, complicated tooth extractions,
reconstructive and dental implant surgery, jaw realignment, emergency jaw or facial repair, or
oral pathology.
To become an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr. Tew completed a one-year general practice residency following dental school as well as a four-year, hospital-based surgical training program. Because Dr. Tew has specialized knowledge in anesthesia and pain control, he is able to offer quality care for patients with anxiety
or pain control issues.
Dr. Tew performs the majority of his procedures in the comfort and safety of his surgical office; however, he is also registered on staff at the local hospitals and can perform in-patient
surgeries for patients with special needs when necessary.
